History: [Wiki links are accepted and welcome! If the wiki doesn't have sufficient information, you can go ahead and write up a brief synopsis of your character's role in their canon. We're not asking for a full manifesto, just enough to give us an idea of what they've been through.]
Canon Point: [Canon points may be taken from any point you wish, as long as the character is still alive and there's sufficient canon material for the point selected.]
Basic alignment: [We're not asking for anything D&D-related, necessarily, but if you want to present it that way, that is fine! We just want to have a basic idea of where your character lies on the spectrum – basically, where they lie on the "cinnamon roll to complete Satan" scale.]
Strengths and Weaknesses: [This is where the important stuff goes. Treat it with as much care as you would any other game's personality section; show off your knowledge of the character and how their personal strengths and weaknesses affect them as a person.]
Skills and Abilities: [Anything special your character does? Things they're better at than anyone else in the world (or maybe just the tri-county area)? List up to three of their strongest skills here.]
Preferred Role: [Would you like your character to be in a more combat-oriented role? A researcher? One of the team's medics? Indicate your first and second choices here - or, if you have no preference, let us know and we'll pick one for you.]
Sample: [Either link us to a recent thread (within the last six months) that you've done with the character you're apping, or write a brief sample within the game's setting. Either first or third person is acceptable; minimum 200 words.]
Plot Involvement: [Would you like your character to have a more involved role in the plot? Note that this increases the likelihood that your character will die, but you will be rewarded for the extra involvement and participation.]
Character Death: [Are you willing to volunteer to have your character killed off in an event? Death is permanent in The Shimmer, but it does not mean you are out of the game and you can definitely still participate if you so choose.]
Opt-outs
Please bear in mind that opting out of an element of the game only means that it will not happen to your character. It does not guarantee that it will not happen in your characters' vicinity. Furthermore, while the game does focus strongly on various types of horror and internalized suffering, we can promise you that no part of the game is focused on sexual abuse or sexual assault of any kind.
That said, please be honest with us in this section regarding what you can and cannot handle in-game.
This game is set to contain the following: body horror, surreal imagery, cosmic horror, unreality, questioning one's identity, infection, character death, and possible suicide. If any of these elements have potential to bother you in any way, please let us know here:
Some of those elements are unavoidable in-game. But if you would like to opt out of any of the above happening to your character, please let us know here and we will try to accommodate your wishes to the best of our ability:
