OOC MINGLE POST
OOC MINGLE
Greetings and welcome to The Shimmer! We hope you're excited for horror and the pleasant experience of bonding with your fellow explorers! But before we head off into what definitely isn't certain doom, let's get to know each other!
Feel free to use this post to introduce yourselves as players and the wonderful characters you're bringing in for this adventure! Gush about your canons, your characters, how much everyone is going to suffer, whatever! You can leave your contact information as well, so everyone can stay up to date on what their expedition buddies are up to!
It also might be prudent to get to know your factionmates and sort out what your characters have been up to, if anything! This is not required, but it's definitely something you can do if you so choose!
Welcome to the game and have fun, the Shimmer awaits.

Hi guys! I'm Redd, one of your mods, and I'm bringing in Eizen from Tales of Berseria! For the canon-familiar, he's coming in from the very end of the game. He's here as a researcher, brought in by the independent contractor!
For those unfamiliar with Eizen, he's a pirate malak (basically a spirit) who is very used to solving problems with his fists. He's not the sort to back down under any circumstances, and he's incredibly stubborn about it. He's also very proud of the fact that he Knows Everything (no he doesn't) and serves as the party infodump on numerous occasions. He likes learning about new things, and is totally here to learn everything he can about the Shimmer (and also maybe help this world out, w/e he's got nothing better to do until he turns into a dragon, it's Fine). Oh yeah, he's also the Reaper. Not literally. But he does have the Reaper's Curse, which is basically just extremely shitty luck that kicks in all the time. It varies from things like "being unable to catch a fish", "coin flips always turn up tails", to "his companions die within three years of hanging out with him" so you know. Fun stuff. When he isn't punching things/people or being edgy, he's getting really excited about architecture and pottery and secret bases, and while he might be over a thousand years old, he's still kind of a dumb young adult at heart. Also he has a little sister! He loves her dearly and would absolutely kill a man to protect her honor. It's okay, she's not here and is safely hiding out on a mountain where he ditched her, but it was for her safety so it's fine!!
For faction-mates!! Eizen absolutely was that guy who kept breaking everything he touched. So many jammed guns, so much broken equipment while they tried to train him... It's okay, he definitely managed to fire a gun once so he's probably fine to use a handgun!! Feel free to hit me up for whatever sorts of interactions you think they might've had; Eizen would've been pretty curious about your world and learning more about it!

For pregame CR, I think from what you've said here Heinwald would've gotten some vibes from Eizen similar to his partner back home, especially since they're both on the researcher side. So in other words, he'd think Eizen is kind of a mess but in a good way...!! He'd totally be up for exchanging world info and discussing their upcoming excursion. He's pretty curious about the walks of life his factionmates came from, and what their possible reasons for taking on this task are if they're willing to divulge.

Hey guys!
It's me, Luminitrium bringing in Crow Armbrust from Trails of Cold Steel since I legit got into the series a few weeks before this game came up and I was just all like Ayyyy LET'S DO THIS
He's pretty much an ex-student from where he's at and caused a shitton of trouble because politics are a thing, but hey everything's great with mecha and all that, right? Anyway, keep Crow from any betting rings and everything will be good.
He's in a Combat Role, ftr!
As for anything we can sort out, in generalities you're all free to say that Crow pretty much was - still is - pretty friendly with y'all. There was some introductions, maybe some bets if he could sucker you into them, but all in all it was in good fun.
For anything more concrete we can discuss if you want, though I'm okay with letting things all start off in the game proper for further developments and such.
I can be reached on plurk @

Eyy everyone I'm Limon here with Therion from Octopath Traveler. See gif above, really. For canon familiar he's post Chapter 2!
...more seriously! Therion is well. a thief who loves apples and is doing his darnedest to be the amalgamation of lone wolf life but keeps finding his way into team situations, augh. He's snarky, blunt to a fault and allergic to making friends/trusting people.
He's one of your combat guys brought in by the government because they know how to get their hands dirty :>. For faction members he was probably pretty stubborn on learning how to use a gun for a while (he did not find the hunter shrine yet) but he's actually pretty decent at it now. Still prefers his sword though :>. He def avoided any social interactions beyond what was necessary with one exception being lurking around any bars/taverns that may have been around base. Also if anyone wants him to have stolen something during their training lmk \o. He would def do so because you don't just stop being a thief when you agree to go to this strange new place for new shiny things.

Rose would have left him alone if directly asked to do so, but until that happened she would try very hard to bring him into the team and make friends with him and stuff. She is a Big Mom and she wants everyone to work together, and also is very eager to hear about everyone's different worlds and experiences because isn't this neat? Wow!!!

Hi everyone! It's Michelle, bringing in Takashi Shirogane from Voltron: Legendary Defender because I'm painfully predictable, at this point. I'm deep in the space cats and there's no end in sight.
Shiro's coming in shortly after he receives his fancy new arm from Princess Allura. It floats at his side and he can extend it pretty far. Nice! That'll probably come in very useful, honestly. He's also getting used to having a corporeal body, because he was stuck in The Void for a pretty long time. I'm sure that won't be problematic when the spooky stuff starts happening. He's had a pretty rough past--he was kidnapped by aliens on a mission and forced to fight in the gladiator arena for... uh, a pretty long time. It's never specified. However, Shiro's the type to internalize and pretend nothing is wrong. He's also a natural leader but he very much loves teamwork, and he can keep calm in most stressful situations!
He's in a Combat Role, and his factionmates are Rose Quartz, Faba, Yusei Fudo and Therion. Shiro's really friendly and encouraging, and he has a really terrible, fatalist sense of humor? Absolutely horrible. Any specifics we can discuss, of course!

Hi all! Seto here, bringing in Heinwald from another gacha game by the developer that brought you Granblue Fantasy, Dragalia Lost! In combat, he's both a healer and an attacker. In this setting he has the role of researcher, brought in by an independent contractor.
Heinwald's primary occupation is an investigator, though he is sometimes referred to as a magic scholar as well. He's a lover of mysteries to the point where he starts going a little stir-crazy if he doesn't have a new book to read or a juicy case to work on, and his idea of juicy is any sort of terrible disaster or Eldritch horror shit. Yikes. But those are just his faves- he'll take pretty much any case if it can sate his hunger even momentarily. But hey, at least he's getting his fave here...? But yeah, when he's not being kind of insufferable about his work, he's not terrible to talk to? ...right. He's also the kind of guy to unironically use the word "balderdash".
What's that? His appearance? What are those skin discolorations and stitches? A bit rude to prod about someone's scars, don't you think? They're not important.
For faction buddies, Heinwald was very averse to the guns at first, finding them a bit barbaric for his tastes. But without access to his magic, he begrudgingly learned how to use one. He spent a lot of time studying what information was given to him to work with (which, considering the survival rate of the Shimmer, was not much), but he's at least caught up on the sort of world he's in right now. He was willing to chat with his new allies, though he often comes off as a bit no-nonsense and stuffy. He was very excited by the prospect of this excursion, though. I'm totally up for plotting out more than this, like pre-established CR too! Let's do this!

GREETINGS SHIMMER, I COME BEARING ONE OF GOD'S BIGGEST MISTAKES; ERIC FROM ZERO TIME DILEMMA.
Zero Time Dilemma is a game about a group of nine people getting trapped in a research facility and basically forced to play Saw, but with timeline shenanigans and other bullshit involved. And also the traps are a lot more complex! (Among other things.) Eric here is a lowly ice cream clerk who went to Dcom, the lovely research facility, along with his girlfriend because she thought it sounded fun, and then a lot of shit happened! Lots of people died, his girlfriend died, he killed a goddamn child because he got mad about said girlfriend dying, it was. Not anybody's finest hour, let me tell you. Eric himself is generally someone who always tries to keep a positive outlook on shit, because his mother told him to always keep smiling, because a smile could bring happiness to others and himself. Which. Unfortunately he took a little bit too literally, yikes, he smiles in the face of everything and it's weird. He's weird. He's also very crass and generally just kind of a bumbling disaster in the making.
Eric is in a combat role (god help us fucking all), and was brought in by a third party; his teammates are Eiji "Gin" Kamiya, Flint, Koharu Kamiyama, Crow Armbrust, and Rokurou Rangetsu! A very lively bunch to be sure. He's definitely someone who at least tries to keep a positive attitude for both his sake and everyone else's, but he's. Definitely probably made several screw-ups and can get a little antsy from time to time. He's also definitely a little distant? ...And perhaps most importantly of all, anytime he talks about Mira, his lovely angel of a girlfriend, he talks about her as if she's still alive. So there's. That much, at least.
Anyway--I'm looking very forward to playing this guy, and watching him be a giant mistake all over everything! I do have a work-in-progress first impressions here, which does list out some of the content warnings that come with his backstory and just. In general, tbh. Please feel free to read it over!

Greetings and salutations fellow gamemates!! I'm Mandee, this is Rokurou and he's a cheerful, upbeat, super nice fella who won't let you down in a pinch! And most of those are even true. He's also a daemon. He likes swords, fighting, and especially likes fighting with swords. If anyone here looks strong he will probably want to fight them. That's just how he is, don't mind him, don't mind him.
Also probably don't fight him, he's a madman.
If it wasn't super obvious already, he's a combatant! He's here for thrills, chills, and blood spills. Whether they be his or someone else's. What else... Oh, right. Teammates! Everyone in this party seems pretty friendly so far, himself included! I'm sure he'll get along just great with everyone. If there's alcohol or any bars around, he's probably invited anyone of drinking age out with him or just gone off on his own. That's also just how he is.
Team friends also might've noticed he doesn't care about guns and really only uses blades. Toss a comment my way faction buds and we can work out more! I'm open to tons. Or toss me a message at

SUP GUYS IT'S YA GIRL, ASHLEY, BRINGING A CHARACTER NO ONE KNOWS UNLESS YOU'VE HEARD OF THAT ONE SHITTY ANIME MAYOIGA: THE LOST VILLAGE
This is Koharu Kamiyama, known exclusively there by her online handle of Koharun, because she's incredibly creative and Mayoiga just be like that. It's about a group of strangers who are fed up with life and join a Life Do-Over Tour to Nanaki Village, a place that's said to be untraceable and where you can live in peace! You may think you've heard this plot before in a thousand horror movies but nothing goes as expected and it's a wild ride for all the reasons you never could've thought of.
Also the pacing is whack, the characters are numerous, and half of it was fucking crowdfunded. They tried so hard, guys. So hard. As you can probably imagine, I love this anime, likely more than it deserves, and I have watched it too many times.
Anywho. Koharu (oh god it's gonna be hard to remember to write her name without the n) is the graduate student who knows the most about Nanaki Village, as she's been researching it for many years, and has a habit of singing creepy folk songs with no warning like this is just a thing you do. She's actually pretty friendly besides that, though, and she has a relatively good read on people in general! Something about being naturally attuned to the emotions of others, and studying psychology for several years surely didn't hurt.
She's here as a researcher, which is quite perfect for her since that's just what she does all the time anyway! She was brought in by a third party, and in the time since they arrived here, she's probably been trying to make people get along, even though she seems somewhat disconnected from it all? She's cagey about her circumstances, if asked, saying this interests her from a sociological perspective, and also there are some people she'd like to bring some conclusive evidence back to. Evidence of what, Koharu? Of whatever they can find!
A very smiley person overall. Determined but a little flippant about herself. This is gonna be wonderful, absolutely.

Hi everyone, I'm Taku! I'm bringing in another guy also named Crow from an obscure Wii game called Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon. (A mouthful of a title, I know) He's been brought in by an independent contractor and his role is going to be combat-oriented.
For the non-canon familiar, on first meetings Crow can be rude, if not downright bratty until he gets to know someone better. Some of this is due to coming from living most if not his entire life in a post-apocalyptic Japan, where most people died out years ago due to a failed science experiment. Also, don't let his young appearance fool you, he is older than he looks for... very spoiler heavy reasons but it'll become quickly apparent what those reasons are almost immediately in game.
Otherwise, he's the "act first, ask questions later" type, which can lead to reckless behavior, even if he is tough enough to seemingly survive most things thrown his way. That said, he is someone who mostly just wants to have a good time and can be best friend for life material. He likes books about pirates, shiny things, and being that one guy that can do a cartwheel while standing on roller coaster tracks, so factionmates, he probably absolutely was that dumbass who had to be told not to point a gun at himself when learning about them and how to use one (though he prefers using other stuff instead) at the time.
Anyway, feel free to add me over at
no subject
As for faction cr, I'm not sure exactly how they would've started off because on the one hand I could see Crow being kind of a little shit and Eizen not putting up with it, but on the other, Eizen is literally a pirate so maybe they got off to a better start lmao!!

Hey, guys! I'm Gale, and I'm bringing in Yusei Fudo from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, a.k.a. that one card game series with the motorcycles. He'll be coming in from just after the Dark Signers arc by the government (and boy does he sure hate that he agreed to their shady shit HE DIDNT LEARN WITH GODWIN, APPARENTLY) and will be in a researcher role. His factionmates are Takashi Shirogane, Rose Quartz, Faba, and Therion.
Aaaaaanyways, this is the Protag of the motorcycling card game anime. Not that you'd know it at first, given how he sorta has to be dragged into the plot via bribery, trickery, and theft and his overall lack of Plot Mandated Powers despite literally living in a card game sentai series, but hey. Under normal circumstances he probably wouldn't have even come here, but he's just dealt with some serious destruction in his world and he's desperate for any resources to help rebuild his hometown. Admittedly, he probably hasn't made the best impression on everyone due to his habits of remaining silent, but he's definitely at least made the effort to communicate with his factionmates and can usually act decent to people he's okay with. Eventually.
His primary occupation is being a mechanic, but as the son of the man who discovered and harnessed actual perpetual energy in his world he's inherited that same penchant for physics and coding and the like. Nine times out of ten though he'd prefer to be using that knowledge to physically cobble something together, though, hence his habit of retreating to build something for hours at a time. Sometimes days. He's not really good at this self-care thing. (yes maybe he DOES hate himself for being the son of the man who's invention literally destroyed half the city and ruined the lives of everyone he's known and loved and used by a cult to bring back eldritch soul devouring God's WHAT ABOUT IT)
anyways you can reach me on plurk at

He's just a normal owner of a bar, nothing too special. And then came the ordeal that made Tokyo be in a lockdown for seven days, and during that he's pretty much in a support role for several lucky individuals. He was satisfied with sticking to his bar and spending the lockdown there unless he had a reason to go out there and get things done, so of course, reasons came forth.
I'm taking him from his route in the game, so he has experience in going forth and getting into dangerous situations. Fighting demons and trying to restore Tokyo to normal should at least give him a little bit of experience when it's about dangerous situations alright!
His factionmates are Eric, Flint, Koharu Kamiya, Crow Armbrust, and Rokurou Rangetsu, and Gin is a medic. At least you can be assured he's competent enough to be of help. Cocktails, medicines, same thing, no?
As usual you can find me at

Hey everyone! I am Dal, your other mod for this little adventure, and I'm bringing in N Harmonia from Pokémon Black/White! He's coming in by way of independent contractor - for his factionmates' reference, he was that guy that absolutely refused to learn how to fire a gun or do anything that might prove halfway lethal to anything, but his strongest skills lie in handling and talking to powerful otherworldly creatures and as such he's probably going to be useful in some way. Maybe. Either way, he's a medic because he's got to be useful while he's trying very hard to establish relations with whatever the hell is in there.
Generally speaking, N is a gentle and well-meaning person who has something of a grudge against humanity; he doesn't want them to die or anything, he just kind of...wants to create an irreversible schism between humans and Pokémon so they can never interact again because humans kind of suck and don't know how to treat anyone decently? This is totally a person you want handling all your immediate medical needs. He's fine, though, this is just sort of what happens when you're abandoned in the woods as a baby and then raised by some guy that just kind of collects children and sees you as his personal powergrab project.
...so anyway,

YO, I am Groove and I'm bringing you a cowboy. This is Flint from MOTHER 3, a fun game boy rpg for children that's definitely not full of heartbreaking moments where major characters die and terrible things happen!! Flint is one of the player characters and is the father of Lucas, who you may be familiar with from a certain game called Smash Bros. Unlike Lucas, Flint has no cool psychic powers but he IS incredibly strong, because his chapter features him fighting a ton of really powerful enemies solo.
Once upon a time, Flint's family lived happily in an idyllic little village called Tazmily, until some weirdos called the Pigmask Army invaded, burned down the forest, and turned the local wildlife into horrible, robotized monstrosities just because they could. In the midst of all of this, Flint's wife was killed and one of his kids went missing, and he's never recovered. In fact, he spent the next three years futilely searching for his missing son while neglecting his still living one. As you can see, he's definitely a very mentally and emotionally stable person. If you've played M3, he's from around the beginning of chapter 7.
He was recruited by a third party, and has been designated with a combat-oriented role. Faction mates! Gin, Eric, Koharu, Crow and Rokurou! You guys are stuck with him! Flint is from a pre-industrial society, so he literally has no idea what computers or guns or even running water is. He made a valiant effort to learn how to shoot a gun since the powers that be felt like they could entrust him with one, but he looks way more comfortable with the steel staff they also provided him. He's uhhh.... a little standoffish, but not rude or anything. He's just very quiet and keeps to himself, but he DID learn everyone's names and roles and stuff. He really does not like to talk about himself, though. If there's anything else you want to hash out, let me know! I'm on plurk at

Hi, everyone! I'm Lu, and I'm bringing in Rose Quartz from Steven Universe! She's here with the government, working as a medic!
For those unfamiliar with Rose, she is a Gem, which is basically a rock alien from outer space. The gem set in her stomach is the true core of her being, with the rest of her body being a hardlight projection generated by the gem. I'm sure this will have absolutely no negative consequences! Rose is the leader of the Crystal Gems, a rebel force which fought to protect Earth from Gem colonization efforts. She has no secrets from anyone and has never done anything wrong in her entire life.
Rose loves humans, new people, and new things in general, so she's certainly been very friendly with anyone she's met here! She is not shy, and would have been eager to learn about everyone and their worlds, along with this new world they're all in. She's also been focusing on her medic training, since her medical skills prior were mostly just "cry on it because I have magical healing tears".

Hey guys, it's Nin! I'm bringing in Nick Valentine from Fallout 4. He's a combatant who was brought in by an independent contractor.
For faction mates, Nick was probably helping everyone without combat experience learn how to safely fire a gun. And also making plenty of jokes about being a robot if people stared at him for long enough. Like a lot of jokes. A third of everything that came out of his mouth was a joke, jokes.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with him, Nick Valentine is The Best Fallout 4 Companion™, being a sassy robot detective who has made a name for himself across the Commonwealth, the post-apocalyptic remnants of Boston.
He's always wanting to do the right thing, always defending people who need the help, and make sure that even if there are plenty of people out there who might not trust him as a synth, he's helping them out, because what Nick cares about more than anything is doing what he thinks is best.
...He's also actually kind of a huge mess, because his entire personality is based on the brain scans of a man who died 200 years ago, whose brain was scanned as part of his PTSD treatment after his fiancee was brutally murdered by a mobster. But of course, as much as Nick would like to pretend that this doesn't matter at all, it's a human who died a very long time ago who formed his personality, but Nick tracked down the mobster who had survived by turning himself into a ghoul,( which is not the race from Tokyo Ghoul, but a horrifying way of not dying after being exposed to tons of radiation by ending up looking like a zombie) in order to continue being a bad guy.
With the help of the Sole Survivor, he was able to track the mobster down and kill him in revenge, which... probably doesn't bode well for Nick's mental health, but heeey details.
As for the Lone Survivor, he was approached by a woman named Nora who asked him for help tracking down her husband's murderer, and son's kidnapper. She just had to rescue him first, no big deal. It was actually pretty impressive.
He comes from the ending of the main quest, where the Lone Survivor has sided with the Railroad and decided the best way to handle everything is to nuke the Institute, because that sure makes sense, thanks Bethesda.
I think I have almost everyone added, but for the handful that I might not have on plurk, feel free to add me at

Since Eizen's in his group, poor Nick probably had to deal with Eizen's Shitty Luck With Guns (And Everything Else) so sorry about that in advance........ He'd be very interested in learning more about Nick though!! What the heck is a robot, please tell him everything about you and your world, he's fascinated.

HELLO FRIENDS, I AM RAN HERE, LATE WITH STARBUCKS. STARYUBUCKS. For I am here with Faba from Pokemon Special! You may recognize Faba from Pokemon Sun and Moon the games, but in case you're not... Faba is the extremely self-important Branch Chief of the Aether Foundation, an organization dedicated to Pokemon conservation. Think of it like the world's most expensive wildlife rehab center, except all the animals have superpowers (and some are, like, living piles of sludge or something). Anyway Faba is definitely not up to anything shady at all in this completely spotless, totally not corrupt organization, and definitely didn't have a hand in fucked up genetic experiments! Also, he's definitely not successful blogger F, a Branch Chief working in Alola.
(he definitely is all of those things.)
Anyway, if you're familiar with Pokemon Sun and Moon but aren't familiar with Special, he's all of the above, but even more of a piece of shit! Fortunately all his Pokemon will be stuck in their Pokeballs for the duration of The Shimmer so he can't have his Hypno torture you for not using his proper title, but. Who decided this man needed a gun and knives.
Anyhow I know all of you I'd say but if you don't have me added I'm at
WHOOPS I FORGOT TO MENTION, he's a researcher with the government faction. He's probably been spending a lot of his time blogging, though he does show up to basic training and such. Factionmates have probably also seen his Pokemon, which are Hypno, Claydol, and Bruxish. Hypno is the one that's out most often and it's a creepy asshole.
